Spent the last several evenings working the wonderful world of the cold NW wind and the outgoing tide. Earlier in the week I fished the Narrows and it was a lot of striper dinks with one 18.5" keeper on a Gotcha plug. Hit the Narrows again early Thurs evening but the wind was so fierce that nothing was on, so I moved on to the Choptank and although it was bitterly cold and windy, it was worth the suffering. Thurs night I caught numerous dinks and 9 keepers --brought home 2 identical fat 20" rock. They love to hit when the water is whitecap rough and wind is rolling from the NW at 20 mph.
Fri night was good too but not as rough. In two hours, caught a dozen or so dinks and 5 keepers - put a 23" and a 24" in the box and headed back. The 24 was so strong and feisty that it snapped the tip off of my 8' graphite rod when he pulled me under the bridge and I had to horse him out.
The thing that amazes me is the weight and girth of these babies. They must have had a good summer because they represent the river well -- they are "Tanks". Even the 16" and 17" fish are fat as all get out!! Most were caught on yellow/red bucktails and some on a blue Roadrunner.
It is a shame that it will be at least another two weeks until the combo of outgoing tide and a strong cold NW wind at night all possibly come together again. Guess next week we will just have to eat turkey and watch football --Aw shucks ...! By the way -- have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!
