Fished Kent Narrows West Side last night from 6PM to 8PM. Seemed like conditions would be pretty favorable - tide was going out pretty strong and wind was whipping up the top pf the water - but nothing much going on. There were no schoolies that I could see or hear and between trying on the rock in front of the pier and over between the bridges with buck tails, bass assassins, storms and a gotcha plug I managed to pull up one lethargic, skinny, runt of the litter-like looking 15 inch dink.

I was surprised to be the only person out there - at least on the West side - and there were only 2 or 3 boats in the water. Do folks think the run is over? I keep hearing that things are late because the water temps all along the coast haven't dropped as quickly and as early as they normally do. I've only fished Kent Narrows for a couple of years - any vets out there think it will perk up again before the season closes on 15th?

The weather is the problem as to why the fish are not turned on. I think the Narrows still has good fish around but from my experience, when there is a fairly constant SE wind and fronts approaching, the fish get lockjaw.
Ask any charter boat captain and he will tell you the same thing.

Wait for high pressure and a NW or W wind and you will see the difference. For the stripers this time of year, tide and time of day also matter. They for some reason prefer to feed on an outgoing tide and if you are fishing in the daytime, you can almost forget it -- they strike when the sun is gone and the moon is up.

They also bite during the day but you just have to know how to work them and also bring an eccess amount of jig heads and BA or Zooms. I also had alot of luck using the worm like artificials with the swirly tails (white). During the day I had good luck casting out and letting it hit bottom and jigging it. Now this is very hard to do when the current is ripping. Try using a heavier jig head and a good time is during the hour window during slack tide under the bridge.

During night the stripers are located near surface with the bigger ones always lurking on the bottom, but in the day time they are almost exclusively located on the bottom.

good thoughts - i'll keep them in mind and hopefully we'll have a few good days left out there this year.

The last two keepers I caught during the day. They were mighty tasty too. I fished forward of the bridges and used shadow to dictate my casts. I also found that if you reel just as fast as needed to keep the slack out of your line....you are reeling too fast ;) I planned to be out there last night but crap happens. One day this week though. The other thing is to have different colors and rigs ready so that the switch ups are quick. I have found the window of opportunity is small when the keeper  bite turns on

Hi C-d-l,

This past Sunday I told you I'd be interested in going to KN on Thursday. Well, I forgot that on Thursdays I have a standing date with my younger daughter to watch Survivor. Tonight I want you to shed tears of joy when you re-hook and land the behomoth that wrapped you around the pilings on Sunday. Good Luck!

DNR KN Tides tonight:
High 4:47pm, Low 12:27am (Fri.)

AOL weather at Grasonville (KN) tonight:
From 7-10pm: 40 degrees down to 38, but "feels like" 37 degrees down to 33.

Winds: from the West at 4-6mph

Also tonight is a new moon.
