Fished the first 3 or so hours of the outgoing tide and the first 2 were dead with no bites --West wind was mellow and it looked like it might be a bum night. Just when I was about to lose faith, I got one very dull hit but it started to pull hard. I pulled back and was rewarded with a very fat 23" Rockfish on the top jighead and another fat 17.5" striper on the bottom one--two at the same time--no wonder it felt strange.
The bite was now officially on and at the next light pole all #%&! broke loose -- every cast of my tandem rigged White Super Flukes for the next ten casts was rewarded with a fish and during that flurry, I pulled in 5 more keeper sized Rockfish and had them flopping all over the bridge. Took time to measure them - an 18.5", 2-19" and 2-21". I tossed the fattest 21" in my bag with the 23" and returned the remaining keepers back to the Tank unharmed.
The flurry looked like it would never stop then it started to snow big wet flakes so I decided to make my way back to the car as I had a 1.5 hr. drive and it looked like it might get dicey. On the way back to the car the wind picked up pretty hard from the SE but I walk trolled 3 more in and released them. They looked to be in the 16-17" range and I did not measure them.
Just another great visit to the Tank and two more fat ones. That makes somewhere in the neighborhood of 17 keepers in the freezer over the last 2.5 weeks. We have been eating real well ... and even though it is a bunch of highway time, it is somewhat economical with gas selling for $1.93 in Easton.
The late fall/early winter span has certainly been the best striper catching the Tank has offered this year. If you can hack the cold winds, you may have fishin' fun.
By the way, I was the only one out there all evening--the cold weather really cuts down on the crowds.
