Myself and Luvs2fish will be making a trip down to CB/KB coming up next weekend. (May 19-21).

We will surf fish the north and south end during the course of the weekend. Both of us have new conv. reels that we want to try out.

Luvs2fish has a ABU BY on a CPS. I have a 525 mag on a 10' Tica. Neither of us have ever thrown a surf conv. reel. It should be interesting to say the least. I am sure the birds will have plenty of nesting sites that weekend.

If anyone wants to join us for the weekend please let me know. I just have to get up at the a$$ crack of dawn on Sunday to come home. I have to be home to take my 2 year old to see Sesame Street in Greensboro.

If any of you are in the neighborhood that weekend, give us a holler.

I will be in Kure May 18-21. This is my first time going to kure beach. I was wondering what should be biting at the pier. Is it too early for pompano, flounder, and spots. Will there be any trout still hanging around. Fairly new to ocean fishing. Thanks for any advice. Mike

I think they have been catching some whiting and blues. I hae not been down in a few weeks.

We fished the pier last time and had good luck with whiting.

This time we will hit the surf. I prefer the surf to the pier for various reasons. Although I fish both.

You can check out kurebeachfishingpier.com for a report.

The big pomps have been moving through, i've seen and heard of some nice 2-3 pounders being caught lately. Flounder are also heating up very quickly. I've been gettin some nice fish in the inlet.

In the past couple days here, the spanish have shown up good. I get the feeling they are gonna be on fire this weekend (along with all other fishing) since i'm goin out of town for a week:rolleyes: . And of course...blues are still thick along with some 10 poundish choppers still around. I got a 12 lb fishing in a creek in the boat the other day but heard they are gettin several every day on the piers. Good luck and let's hear a report when yall get back.

The CB inlet has a huge shoal right now. its about time to wade it for something lurking in the INlet. Just have to watch out for the crowds of people....
Fort Fisher....about everything is biting.

UNC...I was spooled there the other day while fishing with KRAMER. ALso caught two nice biters. Fresh Seamullet is the bait of choice right now. Hopefully they will still be arouns....

I am not sure when I am coming down. I may take off workon Friday. My son has a ballgame on Thursay evening. I really don't want to ride down late on Thursday night by myself. So I may leave 1st thing on Friday morning.

I am scheduled to work until 1200 on Friday but if the weather is gonna be good I will head down at about 0800 on Friday.

I will hit the KB pier untl luvs2fish gets there. Probably the north end on Friday night.

Call my cell at 336-953-2909 if you want to get together to soak some bait. I drive a red Toyota Tacoma extended cab 4x4. Our house is behind the lake in CB on Sumter Ave. I should be in no later than 1600 even if I do go to work.

Look forward to meeting some other P&S guys. I have fished with luvs2fish several times. It is great to meet another diehard fisherman. Even if the fishing has been slow each time we fish together.

Firespyder7, tell me a biter tale! I have fished off and on down at FF for more years than I care to count. Seem there is always something going on with the biters. I've caught some nice ones, but never one large enough to spool me. I've come close with a bull last fall and also had a 5 foot dusky attacked by a really BIG TOOTH in the slough the following week. The dusky got its right pectoral bit off and had a huge gash in its back. I saw the attack as I was getting the dusky into the slough.I actually thought I had the big tooth on at the time and for the life of me couldn't figure why it didn't fight more. After the hit the dusky pretty much came on in. I let her loose, but she likely was nailed again before she got out to sea.
Right now I am recoping from cervical surgery and can't even drive, but intend to get down there as soon as possible with my 113HLW on the old OM 12 Heavy. Maybe we can get together and take a whak at them.

A few years ago I was fishing on the South end late at night. I was catching croakers 2 at a time every cast. I got tired of baiting the hook so I filleted one and put one side on one hook and the other side on the other hook. I flung it out nad sit the rod in the holder. I had not even sit down before it took off. I grabbed the rod and never turned the fish. I just watched my spool keep going and going. I tightned the drag until the line poped. I baited a steel leader and sent her back out with the same bait. A few minutes later it did it again. Never turned this fish. A guy and his girlfriend that was fishing just down from me came walking up with a long wire leader. I baited it up and sent it back out.
I got the next one in. It was some kind of shark. It was over 4'. I caught several other sharks before I got spooled again. I went home.

I have no clue what kind of sharks they were. But the ones I hooked and got in had to be small compared to the ones I never turned.

Ryan, I'm still laid up from the surgery, but as soon as the Doc gives me the OK I'll be ready to roll. I drive a white Cherokee with a rod and cooler rack on the front. If I can figure the pm thing out I'll hit you with my cell. OBTW, do you still get a jump or two from the tarpon down there later on in the summer?

And I saw one that was hooked up last year as well. Poor guy that had it, didnt know what to do with his little rod and reel when it hit but hang on. It didnt last long though. It was over in a few seconds.

Ive actually seen schools of them thick while surfing there at the cove....(in front of the Civil war museum.)

Fished Kure Beach Pier from 5-18 to 5-21. Bottom Fishing was slow. Caught several small mullet and croakers, one specked trout that was just shy of measuring, 4 real small spots and a few small sharks. The results for the others fishing seemed to be about the same. I talked to a guy flounder fishing and he said he caught one that would keep, but did not say how big it was. There were alot of people surf fishing, But did not see anything caught from the surf. This was my first trip to kure beach I usually fish topsail. I will try again later. Good luck to all.

I fished on Friday morning at the Carolina Beach Pier. I tried Gotcha plugs at daybreak with no luck. I trip shrimp after breafast with only small spots and whiting. Some guy caught 2 sharks around 4' on the end.

Tried the surf for a few hours with no luck. It was just an excuse to try out my new conv. The 525mag worked great. Only took me a few throws to get used to it. I never did do well using no mags. I could sling it perfectly using #2.
I guess that will come with time. I can definately throw it farther that my spinning outfit but I was within 100 yards. Any suggestions??

Luvs2fish had a Blue Yonder that we tried to throw. The first cast was a birds nest from he11.
The next few was good. The first time I threw it, I burned the fingerprints off my thumb. I was afraid of it from then on. I think he is going to mag it to see if he can get it to slow down some.

That afternoon we fished the KB pier with minimal luck. Only small whiting and spot. I did see a guy hook up with a big ray that broke him off after a few minutes. I hooked one later in the evening that I could not do anything with. I figured I was gonna be spooled but the hook came out after a minute or so.

Saturday sucked all the way around. Rained in the early morning. Sun came out late morning and the wind cranked up. Caught a few small ones.

We never did make it to the south end.
Overall the fishing sucked but a crappy day of fishing is better than a good day at work!!!!!

I actually hardly got any fishing in this weekend. I think it was blowing good though wasnt it?

I fished friday at the south end with no luck other than small sharks.....

the blue yonder, dont mag it...just sell it to me....

On an different note... I was at fort fisher this evening catching bait for the trip tomorow to hatteras. I f-d up and didnt take any rods as I wanted to concentrate on bait...
Got over the crossover and there was a half mile of bait, birds, spanish and blues, chomping at about fifty yards off the beach at high tide. The spanish were airing it out!

I talked to a couple that were fishing and they didnt know what blue fish were, but said..."yea, everytime those birds come by, this is all we catch"...
whodathunkit?
later guys!
