I will be staying on Bald Head Island May 20-27 and need some advice about the surf fishing. What bait or lures are recommended? What size rods/lb test line? Any other advice would be great. Thanks in advance for ANY suggestions!

You didn't mention what species you would like to target. I think you can't go wrong with light surf tackle 10ft.+ , 15-30lb, 14-17 lb line, 3-5 oz lead. If you use 5oz plus, you should use a shock leader. Natural bait, I vote for supermarket fresh shrimp, if you brine them the day before its better or cut mullet. Lures, I vote for a Hopkins or sting silver with a buck tail.

Good luck & tight lines

PS, Welcome to the Board. If you have any questions regarding surf fishing you came to the right place. You cannot find a more knowledgeable bunch of fishermen than here, unless all the guys went out to fish at the point.
You will not find another board, where the members are more generous about sharing their knowledge about the surf fishing.

Welcome,

Its just like south point in Ocracoke. Problem is, getting there. Bu boat is one thing, but walking....phew. And lets just say the "LOCALS" there just dont like to many of "us's" trudging accross the beach, arms filled with rods and reels for the night.....There have been some really nice big drum there though. Watch thte winds and weather just like everywhere else....

Thanks for the help! I have heard that some of the locals aren't very interested in having lines in the water but oh well. I am going to be up there (I am from south Ga) with my family and another family with our 6 kids under the age of 6 so I will need to have something to do while we are on the beach all day. I have already made promises of grilling some fresh fish so any extra advice will be appreciated.
