OK, it is all set going to do the florida theme parks the 14-28 of July. Wife, kids, mother and neice and me are going to take the drive into Tampa for a busch gardens trip.

However while they are at the park I will be doing what I love most....fishing Yipee I will need a day of RR after all those theme parks in Orlando. So my question

Where should I go to catch some fish....would prefer a place where I wont have to buy a license (like a pier) but if needed so be it. I will have limited space for rods/reels so what should I bring I have room for 2. I own damn near all sizes and reel types, should I bring conventional or spinning. one of each?

What will be biting? Next what should I be using for bait.

You think a headboat would be my best bet to catch some fish? If so where and which one. Reservations needed?????

Directions to suggested fishing spots would be appreciated.

Lastly anyone like to join me?????? Will have exact date soon.

I have fished Redington Long Pier myself and they were slamming some Spanish that day and did see one nice snook come over the rail. Neat Pier with a variety of nice fish that can be caught.

damn make a post on the Floriday board and get a va beach person replying and a neighbor to boot. You could have called me steve LMAO. But thanks and thanks DS. Still taking options.

What about headboats for red snapper and grouper. Thinking I could do a half day headboat trip then the rest on a pier or beach. Hell I will have a long time to devote to fishing as the family will be at busch gardens open to close. :D:D:D:D The longer they are there the better for me. Oh I finally broke the news to the wife tonight about my little plan she was not too happy but reluctenetly agreed to let me fish....hell it is my vacation too :D:D:D

Ken, I've fished in Tampa several times, and I've always had decent luck on the Sunshine Skyway Pier. They charge per car, something like $3/car + $1/person or something like that. You can drive right up to where you want to fish, get out and fish :D I've had good luck with Gotchas and Clarkspoons rigged behind a bubble.

Also, if you want to hop on a party boat, the boats out of Hubbard's Marina in Madira Beach (due west of tampa city) is pretty good. Check their website for more information. You can rent their rods, although I recommend bringing some Gami hooks and some frozen cigar minnows (or better yet, live pinfish) with you if you can. They run half day trips daily, as well as full day, extended full day and 34 hour trips.
