Im planning on going to Melbourne this July and hit the causways hopefully catch some of those Mangrove Snappers in the Banana and Indian rivers. You guys know which causeway is usually the best to fish for the Mangos? I fished th Aue Gallie last year at the boat launch and did pretty well with Specks and catfish but only one Mango. Anyone got any good techniques and locations for those Snappers? Thanks

my old fishing spot for mangroves was the Melbourne Beach Pier riverside opposite Melbourne Beach. It has a large amount of rock ad structure, both natural and man made around it that the mangroves love. If you can get some greenies or other shad type fish you can make a killing of legal size and a few nice slabs to boot. Show up to start fishing them ~5-6 PM and continue into the next 2 hrs of dark as they'll be active around there until a few hrs after. I used to bait the live fish (mud minnows would work should cast netting bait be out of the question) with a size 1 hook with one split shot. I used to cast the baits straight out across the front of the pier towards the middle of the river. There's some nice rock and holes there the snapper frequent. Sometimes should snapper be missing you can grab a bull whiting here and there within this spot as they pass through during the evening.
As for causeways, I fished Eau Gallie and Melbourne Causeway back when I lived there and I preferred Melbourne, but it was closer for me. I used to fish greenies or shad up close to the pylons of the bridge and wait for the nibbles. The peak time for the mangroves is usually fall but there are always some residentals around all times of the year. Good luck and have a blast.
