For those that have been following my Snook mis-adventures in my recent reports, you know that I have got my azz handed to me by some big boy Snook fishing from a dock under Dunlawton the last couple of weeks. Despite landing some underslot Snuk, the big ones have evaded me even when I had them beat and to the surface. I've had everything happen to me such as 3 straightened owner hooks in 1 night, landing one on the dock and having him bounce off the other side, not having a net, beating a fish and having my buddy try and hand-line him up on my power pro slicing his hands.
Tonight about 12:30am (I guess that's technically this morning)... but kids I gotta tell you: it was in the cards and all the stars were aligned properly. I missed 4 in a row, bigguns too, they wrapped on the pilings and snap. One even bent my rod completely in half to the point where I didn't know it could bend so far without snapping when my 30-lb PowerPro gave way. My buddy laughed and told me to be patient because tonight was the night.
About an hour later I cast upcurrent and let it drift in, almost into a piling. In fact, I got so close I thought I had snagged and then ZINGGGGGGGG my drag starts peeling as he headed West around the post. My buddy grabbed the net and ran for me. I fought him for about 20 seconds and I heard a pop of my line and it went limp. Me and my friend thought the ride was over, and then drag starts peeling at a ferocious speed. I looked at my buddy and we realized he'd got the line off the post and headed east. Then I started pulling up hard and he appeared. My buddy missed his first attempt at the net and my heart sunk. Then adrenaline kicked in and I yanked his snook azz back up and he was finally netted. A nice 10-lb FAT 29" long Snook. The best part is my size 1 Owner j-hook stayed in tact this time without straightening. Here he is:

Brought him home and fileted him up for dinner tomorrow:

Caught 3 Lady's and Mango too, but who really cares? :D
P.S. Thought it was weird we didn't pull any flounder for the first time, maybe we've fished them to extinction? :p
