The Spanish Macks were definitely "In Da House" in J-ville today.... There were about 8 or 10 of us with king rigs out and slingin' plugs all morning. It was a great time, and I'd guess conservatively that 50 or more macks were brought over the rail. Myself I caught four, and had two gotcha's cut off. Must'a had 10 more "mack attacks" that I missed. Water was clear and it was great watching those fish chase and grab the lures. I also got a lookdown on my bait rod, my first, and folks that is a strange lookin' critter.
We had two runs on the king rigs, a fella got one big one (35-40#) to the pier, but the fish had saved a little for the end, and got in the pilings and cut off. Another guy had a short run, but never hooked up. I heard that a small king was caught after I left. A friend of mine caught a HUGE Spanish on his king rig. My rig had a bluefish for bait and all stayed quiet, except for a 4 foot shark that kept hanging around but never bit. I also got a close look from a 'cuda, but something spooked him, and he left. There was a 'cuda landed as I was packing up to leave.
My boys had a good time catching bait, and watching the action on the end.
Weather was wonderful, and it was a very enjoyable day.
