Just wondering if anybody could give any advice to trolling these guys. The ad says irresistible to saltwater species so I just had to get a pair. On the back it states a maximum of 30lb mono which sounds a bit light for a head hit. Wondering if anybody has had any experience to share on how to rig and troll these things? Thanks

PS Heck why I am thinking about it what about the "drone" spoons too. Would you use mono or wire leader from the spoon with a swivel or what is the best? Again thanks

I was fishing a king tournament the other day and the only hit and the only fish on the gaff hit one of those lures. They pull great in the water and are dynamite on a downrigger. As far as leader, I use #40 flourocarbon which really makes a difference. As far as getting cut off, it hasn't happened yet. Usually kings go for the tail and then come back to clean up. Now with drone spoons, a wire trace might not hurt.

With drones we used 200mono with almost no cutoffs...

When rigging ribbon fish {real or man made}I have alway's used a jig head such as a hank brown or a manns running it up through the bottom of the jaw and out the top just behind where the nostrils would be .Then I would use no#5 wire between either no#4 or #6 trebles spaced 6in apart down the length of the underside of the bait . I would also use about 3to 4ft of no# 5 wire leading from the jig head to a No#7 swivel. This has been very productive for me. Some people like to use stainless steel or chrome trebles and titanium wire to tie their riggs. But I prefer still to use the old haywire twist and barrell wraps to do mine.

Appreciate the advice. I had bought two of those rascals and wanted to get out to some blue water this week, but never happened. Inlet fishing for spanish and a morning of jigging up cigars is about all I saw. Did catch a small King on a gold hook rig while jigging and oh yeah some sunburn too. Let him go for another year. Maybe do better next year. Now back to work...Yuck!
