There is a small public access pier at the old military base at Kure Beach, has anyone ever fished there and if so what can you catch? It is on the Cape Fear river side. Someone said that they catch lots of crabs there, not interested in that....looks like a nice place, was on vacation and noticed it.

the cape fear river holds reds, flounder, and trout. not sure about the water depth or anything around that pier but i'm guessing there's a decent shot at least for a flounder around it.
we tore up the reds on tuesday along with a few trout mixed in while fishing around the spoil islands in the boat.

You can expect a really awsome Pinfish bite there right now, along with some croakers....
You may be able to get a flounder or drum if you can keep the pinfiah at bay.....
By the way...The Horse flies are in full swing right now.
the seem to be biting mostly on lower legs and backs, however they will hit just about anything.
Killed and cleaned at least 7 the other day!
