Morning to all, I'm new to the area and without any true "tackle shops" (that I've found) I'm finding it difficut to get any advice on fishing (what fish might be out there? locations, tactics, gear, set-ups). Just wondering if anyone here is from the area and can offer any advice. Thanks Ben

Head across neuse river from Oriental to South river. For trout I use soft plastics with curly tails.Fish the points and the mouth of feeder creeks.Color depends on the water color, dark for dark water and light for light water;) Move northeast from south river to point of marsh fishing all the way  try racoon island and swan island.Big drum on cut bait should start biting soon to the end of september.Tarpon around july and august.Get n c saltwater fishing and boating map. 100 places to fish, just not enough time.Good Luck, Fenner:D :D :D Beware of restricted areas and the bombing range!!!!

Definatly not that familiar with the area myself, but I do tarpon fish out a marina in Oreintal.. It has a jetty near it,and have seen folks fish that thing and pull out trout, pups, and flounder fairly often, with both lures and bait..

I do a good deal of inshore fishing in that area and it is great for specs and reds. Gulp shrimp on popping corks and gulp jerk baits on 1/4oz jig heads are my favorites. Down near the mouth of the Bay River has always been good to me.
