Can anyone recommend a good camping site I can take my 3 year old son? I plan a father and son trip every year and was thinking about taking him camping this year. last year we went to VA beach and stayed at Double Tree Hotel.
Looking for a camp site near beach or water and have plenty to do for little ball of energy. Also, being able to have a rod out would be a plus! Would like to keep driving to max of 600 miles round trip from Northern VA. Thanks!

I was thinking of doing the same thing this year with my son. Was thinking of going to the mountains - Crabtree Falls or to Seashore State Park just above VA Beach - think they changed the name to First Landing State Park. Haven't been in a while, but the water seemed calm.

I don't know of the names of any around Va Beach but I when I head South to fish I always stay at Hatteras campground in Rodanthie. Super clean, safe, right on the water, everything ya could ask for in a campground and srounded by great fishing.
I will check and see what I can find for ya around Va beach.

For the Outter Banks Camp Hatteras is a good campground with beach access and the Rodanthe pier up the street. Also have a small playground and swimming pools. Can be hot in the summertime if camping in a tent (no shade).
Southern end of the Eastern Shore has Kiptoepeak (sp) state park. Sits on the bay and has swimming in the bay and fishing (Has shade).
Also 11 miles from the north end of the CBBT is Cherrystone family campground. Has everything for a family. Sits on the bay. Have a party boat that goes out twice a day (has shade).

If you are focusing on the kids you cant go wrong with cherrystone in your mileage goals, very family oriented and i think they have pier there to if i am not mistaken.
Good Luck

Thanks everyone fo the input... Cherrystone Family Campground looks promising. I believe we have a winner!! arcade, swimming pool, outdoor activities, beach, clamming, crabbing, fishing and etc... according to the website they have 4 fishing piers and a bait and tackle shop with kayak, and canoe rental...

I headed to Cherrystone myself in a few weeks. Our first visit down there. They told me they have a boat ramp so I’m bringing a boat. Just found out I need a saltwater lic. 5 day for fishing and crabbing for all members on board cost 38 bucks. Now I need to find out where to fish for what.
