When I first came to Florida years ago, a coworker took me to his place on Little Gasparilla Island and let me fish off his dock on the bay side during the weekend.

I had quite a few strong hits but only managed to bring in a large catfish and a large snapper that managed to snap my line before I could bring it in.

Now that I am retired and have plenty of time on my hands, I plan on pier fishing, shore fishing but it made me wonder if there are private homes willing to rent out their dockspace for a relaxing day of fishing from their docks one or two people maximum at a time.
Any such thing (or organization)?

Up hear in the midwest, it's not uncommon for people to sign hunting/fishing leases for rights to hunt and fish private property.

About 5 years ago a buddy of mine moved to Jaxville area. No, he looks on VRBO.COM (Vacation Rental By Owner) for rental properties in his area. He contacts the owner and offers a small token amount to fish from their docks only in times when the home isn't rented or when the homeowner isn't there. Last summer he was up to a dozen or so places that either charged him, told him to fish it without charging him, or ticked him off and he just goes and fishes them anyway when it's empty.

Might take a little time hunting down a spot that will let you do it, but hey, you don't work, time is all you got.

If i lived on the water or owned a dock i would let people fish off of it. Some people will probably let you as long as you respect them and their property but your a vet that really shoudnt be a problem.
