Hey guys,

My name is Teddy and I'm coming down from VA to KDH to fish for a week starting on June 16th. I was wondering if any of the locals in that area have any suggestions as to which pier is better, Avalon, or Nags Head (I've fished both, but have only fished Avalon a handful of times). My plan is to target Flounder for at least one day that I'm there, and another day, I plan on fishin for Spanish in the morning and evening with bottom fishing in between. I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions as to which pier is better for either of these species, and what to use..currently I have a plan of building my own rigs for Flounder using the Carolina Style setup, but I was hoping for some suggestions as to sinker weight, hook size, etc. I also plan on using some Old Salt rigs tipped with squid or shrimp, or any good suggestions you guys may have...I've only caught a handful of flounder while fishing over the years (none were keepers) and have never taken the time to spend a full day targeting them, so can you guys fill me in? I'd really like to land a few keepers while I'm down there. Thanks.

Try you typical flounder set up with enough wieght you can cast near pilings and drag it slowly, this varys with the amount of current and the amount of surf.. Usually near cleaning sinks can be a good spot.. I don't generally fish for flounder off the planks, but strip baits and "if you can net them",finger mullet on a drag rig should work great for them as well...

tHe two hook bottom rig worked well for me. You might want to try it with a long shank hook and a minnow only. Give it a try.

Bring a sabiki rig with you. Theres always plenty of lil fish hanging out under the pier that make great flounder baits. Even got me a flounder one time on a 6" baracuda.
