Went out yesterday on my buddies boat to spearfish for flounder and stuff. Got a the ten mile dredge. We had about three hundred menhaden on the boat in the live well. We saw something pass by the boat looking like a cuda so we started to throw a few pogies over to get them chomping. After about a minute, a school of cobia started busting the hell out of them. it looked a school of Tuna! A most awsome sight, We managed to a hook up a few times but ended up losing them in the wreck.....
Also saw a few schools just outside the breakers at fort fisher. KNow of one that has been brought to the beach, however, undersized.
We'll be out tommorow on the beach fishing. NCBBA#12275

we were spearfishing too yesterday at the 8 mile ledges out of masonboro. well, i ended up dropping one of my weights...managed to pull myself down the anchor line but the only way i could stay on the bottom was holding onto a rock with my feet pointing skyward:rolleyes:. my dive got cut short, only saw a couple seabass the short time i was down there but my buddies speared a bunch of nice flounder and saw even more. i sabiki'd some bait up and light lined hoping for a cobe while i sat on the boat but only got a shark. resorted to bottom fishing and caught all the seabass i could want along with some big grunts.
your report sounds like more fun.;)

Its been slow at best. Ive only been twice this year. First, You have to fight the party crowds.....they are usually parked two and three deep on the point. Second. the shoal is so flat right now. Anywhere you cast, even at high tide, you are only in wiast deep water. You have to wade for hundreds of yards to get anywhere.
The south end continues to have deep holes along the beach. you just have to find them. We fished one yesterday that was over our heads at low tide. (full of sharks) hopefull, it will stay....

sounds good. went out a while ago after work for a bit, rode out to the jetty and it was crystal clear but we didnt bring the spearguns:mad: . too many idiots in boats out today so we retreated to the creeks and released a 15"ish flounder.

I use a sling there mostly on the jetty.
Its a whole lot easier for the flat ones.
I like it clear too. Just as the tide is low enough that its barley coming over the wall and still going down.
I actually might hit first thing in the morning. Say about 8:45. I drive a blue Dodge Dakota four door slt. If parking is convienient, we'll see.
