Fished around Fernandina and Ft. Clinch today, and I must say it started off SLOW...I started early at a flounder hole on Egan's creek. I caught one short flounder, and a keeper black sea bass on a Gulp! shrimp.

Next stop was the jetties behind Ft. Clinch, throwing the Gulp!'s and mud minnows, lost a few rigs, but all I caught there was a BIG horseshoe crab, toting another on his back...Guess I interrupted them in the heat of passion....

The third stop was at the Ft. Clinch Pier, where I met up with Surf Fish, and while I was waiting on him, I threw the Gulp!'s again, and got one good bite, but lost him. Never saw the fish, but I'm guessin it was a flattie.

Surf Fish arrived and we threw out a couple of bottom rigged rods and began the flounder quest again, up and down the pier. We caught a nice whiting and a couple of small sharks on the bottom. The water began to clear up on the last part of the outgoing and the flatties began to bite...I caught three more, all keepers, on minnows. Surf Fish had some kind of well guarded secret lure he says he designed, and was catching fish as well. He wouldn't let me get hold of his "Flounder Pounder", but it had some sort of spinner, and what looked like buck tail hair. I do know that he was putting strips of mullet on as a trailer.

I left at about 4:15p for home and left my three keepers with Jim, for putting me on the fish. Here's some pics...

All in all, a good day, and I'm catching on to this Flounder thing....

Is that Larry on your arm?

Nope, It's my Mom, Dad's on the other arm. You can't see it to well in the pic, but I used two old B&W photos of Mom at her Nurse pinning and Dad when he graduated Flight training.

They are both dead and gone and were the type of folks that deserved a living memorial...

Very nice. I thought you made Larry a bit too girly... My buddy has the Larry Tat on his left forarm in the same spot. That is why I noticed. Nice flounder how did you eat em?

Nice flatties! Don't ya just love folks who are TOP SECRET about their fishing spots/lures? :p I say share the wealth, and when your spot or lure get's blown up, you'll be forced to find somewhere or something else, thus making you a smarter fisherman. That's why I don't mind sharing my info...

with that said... I'll give y'all my new flounder secret. Gulp! Silver Mullet rigged on a jig head and bounced slowly along the bottom. Vic can vouch for it. :D

Good job with the flatfish, RR! I fished a couple of hours last Sunday at the jetties by the fort, with nary a fish to show for my efforts. I DID throw my cast net and bring home some small mullet. I'll cut 'em up for bait and whack those flatfish next time I go out there!

By the way, FWC is sponsoring a free kids fishing clinic at the Ft. Clinch pier this Saturday (June 17) for lil' 'uns age 4-16. I'm taking all three of my little gals; should be a blast! Only bummer is this event is catch-photo-release. I'll be back to catch the escapees on Sunday, tho!
