View Full Version : New Guyd
Hi everyone, I am new to the boards and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Dan and I live in Orlando, and I am rather new to fishing saltwater, but I have been fishing the freshwater lakes of Seminole county for most of my life. I am excited to learn more about fishing in this area though.

Welcome aboard matey. I'm pretty new to this board as well. I was glad I found it though. The guys here can really throw you some good tips to branch out your fishing.
I'm somewhat of an old (young) salt myself. I've been fishing up and down the FL coast since I got here 6 years ago and have been saltwater fishing since I lived in Norway and fished the cold North Sea at age 12. I remember being a beginner to both salt and FL. You're going to have to log in some serious hrs of fishing to get familiar. Best excuse I ever had for fishing to give the wifey. "Honey I need to go out today so I can figure out how to fish this hole this weekend." Mostly, I'm saying stick with it and ask questions. Salt fishing can produce some real crazy trips.
Just to add my own opinion on salt gear. If you want to use some freshwater poles and reels they can be used quite effectively within the IRL and Misquito Lagoon. Anything pier and beach I would recommend and upgrade.
As a note towards good investment brands of reels, I can recommend Shimano FX 4000 and above reels if you're looking for durability in salt/sand and a less expensive option. I'm sure some people will lamblast me for this reccommendation but a nice 4000-5000 can handle good sized beach species, pack on 300-350 yds powerpro, and go for the long run. I have a set of these reel that are now nearing 15 years old and have caught fish on 3 continents from fingerling FL whitng to 50# North Sea cod
Good luck

Welcome!! If you are fishing in the Titusville area, stop at Skeeter Lagoons on Garden St, road from I95 to beach, they are good with information.
