Moon phase for surf fishing

For the first time ever I get to pick the week in Sept. that we go to HHI. Full moon is the 7th.(a Friday)New is the 22nd.(a Sat.) Would you recommend fishing from the full to the last quarter or from the last quarter to the new? Would be doing most of my fishing on Sunday through Thursday.

Well closer to the full moon the tides will be pulling harder and more water with each tide. This can be good or bad. it depends. Strong tides may pull more bait into the area or keep the bait further off shore. I don't mean to dance around your question. Maybe someone else can help out on this one. Usually I fish 2-3 hours before and after high tide. I usually don't base it by the monn phase but there is some people that go by them. New moon the tides are very weak. I'd rather fish closer to the full moon then the new moon. Like I said maybe someone else is better answering it

In my neck of the woods, the full moon SUCKS. Higher/Stronger tides, dirty water, lots of weeds/trash, and VERY little in the way of action. Just makes for a less enjoyable trip, all the way around.

I have no idea about HHI, full moon could be the time to be there...

Some folks just swear by the full moon, I swear AT IT!

sorry to correct you, but new moon's tide is as strong as the full moon's...the weak tide is when there is a first or 3rd quarter moon.

I was off on the days . THe full is on a Thursday. The new is on aFriday. I am only a one week a year surf fisher, but it has seemed to me that at full or new,current is stronger, more trash in surf , less bites . The best days for me have been on a surf that looked like an inland lake. Very small waves . But what I am wondering is would it be better followling the full up to the quarter or following the quarter up to the new?
