im thinking about floating a spanish, bonita,or eel
out obout 200 yards away from the pier. what size reel do i need to do this kind of fishing im thinking maybe a 9/0 penn reel. any other suggestions? how to rig the bait?
Thanks for any help..............

You can put a live spot on a 6/0 hook with a wire leader. Also, and oily greasy fish will put a stink line in the water for the shark to swim up to. Do you have crimps and sleeves? It might help you out when fishing for larger sharks. But I'm not so sure that you're supposed to actively fish for sharks out there.
Wait a minute, aren't you "Sharkfisher?" :p

IMO that's enough reel. You could probably get by with smaller. I couldn't tell you how to rig a floating rig, but as long as you had a good size bait, I dont think you would have any problem. Live bait is always more productive for me off the bottom. I usually take some frozen whatever I've caught on my last trip in the cast net. Just to get started.
I fish for them off the south end of the island because you can hit deep water with an average cast. We've had some big boys break off. I personally haven't landed one over 4ft yet. I've been within an inch or two, but can't get one over. Most are right around 3ft.
I think my next purchase is going to be a Daiwa 30SHA loaded with some braid.

I remembered there is that Shark fishing group over at St Simons. I bet they have floated baits.
Think they call themselves the St Simons Sharkers.
