Hello everyone. I don't have a yak yet but the thought has crossed my mind and I have a few questions. First how do you keep your legs and arse from falling asleep? I tried sitting on the floor in the yak position and after about 45min toes have that tingly feeling. Second, How do you get out of or off of one. Do you just paddle hard and beach it or do you just get off of it and get yourshoes wet? And thirdly, what are thigh straps? Are they like seat belts for yaks?

It will be a little different for each individual, but a decent seat or pad and properly adjusted foot position will increase your comfort.
I don't know about everyone else but I push the kayak out to about 6" or more of water - step over and sit down. Getting out I just reverse the steps but you have to make adjustments for gravity (285#).
I won't comment on thigh straps because I use a rudder now and they'd just get in my way.

regarding with legs, when fishing I try sit sideways and dangle my legs in the water. Also, I would wade and fish if it is possible. I would go out and rent or test one to see if you will be comfortable in one...

It is fairly easy... just takes a little coordination and balancing... I have launched and landed from jetties, floating 'canoe docks', ramps, and beaches with no issues. From the docks, I find it easier to sit on the dock and slide myself into the yak... very easy. From the beach and ramp, like salt said... just float it, 'straddle' the yak and sit down. From jetties... it takes proper foot placement on the rocks and luck  Riding in on the surf and beaching yourself is fun... until the next breaker crashes behind you water blows through the scupper holes and swamps your crate and arse. :--| Like SeaSalt said though, go rent a yak and see for yourself, they're much more stable than most people imagine.

Thigh straps are for surf use and only really neccessary in large surf. Helps you lean the boat to turn and keeps you from being floated out of the yak in the whitewater of broken waves. If you need thigh straps, you might want to already have some smaller surf experience. To exit the kayak even if you're upside down, all you have to do is straighten your legs some and bring your knees together and you're out. Some use a seat belt. Very effective but dangerous so NOT recommended.
