ok, after reading this forum, i've realized i know nothing about fishing int he bay. i've been fishing at sandy point, metapeake, and romancoke since i was 5 years old...now i'm 25...

i've been using rods that were my fathers..he probably bought them at Kmart for all i know. they definitely arent in the best condition, basically they are in very bad condition, but they have worked...all of them are spinning reels, from 6 feet to 12. all i use are those metal lure things that have a top and bottom with tiny red beads on them...i buy them at anglers for 89cents,, stick a 1oz weight on it, 2 (i dont even know what size but they are probably 3/4 inch wide) and some peices of cut up spot....

i now want to buy a nice reel and rod combo and maybe learn how to fish these 3 areas properly, like a pro. someone wan tto give me some pointers on rod/reel combos, bait and lures, line, etc? i hear a lot of people mention the Squidder 140L...is that good...i'm winning to try conventional reels and learn. again, i'll only really be fishing these 3 locations with the occasional bat trip with my buddy in OC which he just bought.

My go to rod is my All Star 10'6" which will handle 1-4 oz. Most of the times you will rarely need over 4 oz in the bay. A good quality spinner (Shimano, Penn Slammer, etc.) with 15 lb mono or 20/30 lb braid will work fine. The extra length of the rod will enable to cast to those far off fish (point lookout is a prime example) that feed in the distance - blues, spanish macs. The reel choice is more important than the rod choie. Spend the money for a quality reel that will not let you down on the fish of a lifetime...

Remember - the rod hold the reel, the reel holds the line, but the line holds the fish. Quality line is very important. Trilene Big Game and Ande have stood the test of time...
