Caught my first Tarpon on 8-4. It took 1 and half hours and alot of help. Thanks again Jason and Carrie and everyone else. Boy what a fight. Jason thought he had one on last night but it turned out to be about a 100lb. blacktip. One small king was lost and 1 on a gotcha plug. Caught 8 flounder 2 to 3 and one half pounds. About 15 caught on Saturday-all keepers. Some virginia mullets caught along with black drum. As I eased my finger mullet in the water this morning for a flounder a 2 lb. spanish came from under the pier and nailed it. Decked him too. We don't lose many fish at the big JR.....Real professionals move their anchors rods correctly when a fish gets on. What a great weekend...Again the big story was that silver king TARPOOON.....Wish you were there pier legend, Dave, and Topsail Bum.:) The small king may have been a spanish but it hit a pretty good size bluefish. That is not usually on their menu. The hooks just pulled out.

..alright now, give us the details...What did it hit, what did it weight?, how many jumps did you get???..
..I may be wrong but I believe the old Jolly Roger has the only 2 tarpon landed so far this year, from a pier!
..was Brooke with you?..if so I bet she was excited..
..again, most excellent catch Mike!

Thanks everyone. PL, it weighed 65 lbs. BT left the pier about 7:30 pm. He gave me his bluefish. About 20 minutes later, it WAS ON!!!!!
All three gamagatkzu (spelling?) hooks were in his side behing the gill plate. Not one was bent. He made 2 runs from pier, jumped 6 times. He went down the pier one time, then back out, then back in again around 10:00 pm. He finally went to the beach. I tried to beach him there so I could release him. But the dude swam back out and I locked down that wide spool 4/0. Jason then netted him and the fish was whipped.....He did not survive. We tried to revive him in the water. So, I took the meat to the turtle hospital and boy were they glad. Them little critters will eat for weeks now. I was so nervous with my first tarpon and all and around about 50 people. I used the same rig today but with new swivels of course. After 20 yrs of king fishing and no tarpon strikes I hope the next one doesn't take as long. Brooke was at home-shucks, but could not believe the pictures. BT was SICK he left so early....
