virgin saltwater fisher(wo)man

I love to fish (bass, bream, crappie, stipers) but have never been saltwater fishing before. I am at a total loss. I will be staying in Orange Beach week of August 7th. I know there is a pier near condo that is awesome for crabbing (been there done that) but also some good fishing. This is where I am at a complete loss. I need all the info I can gather. I have been told reds and amcks frequent the area.

What type rod should I use? Is my medium/light going to be enough? What pound test? Bait and/or lures should I use?

ANY advice anyone can give me would be so greatly appriciated!!! I have no idea where to even begin in preparing for my salt water fishing debut!

(going trolling toward end of stay but who wants t wait that long to get a line wet?)

If anyone ever needs advice on striper fishing on the Arkansas River or where to catch monster bluegill, hollar, I'm your gal...

Well, I'm in Panama City Beach now but I don't now a whole lot. What I can tell you is that what you would use for bass and catfish would work well for most of the inshore fish here in the Gulf.
