Headed out again yesterday evening back up to St. Andrews Bay for some more fishing on the jetties. Got there about 5 and fished until about 9 and ended up with several more spanish. The tide was pulling to hard to try to fish for any snapper.
8/6(am) - Headed back out to St. Andrews Bay this morning for more fishing on the jetties. Got there about 8:15am and in 5 minutes we landed our first spanish. Fishing was great for about an hour and a half with the spanish hitting. Saw several tarpon roll CLOSE to the jetties. They were huge and bait was scattering EVERY WHERE.
It wasn't long after we saw the tarpon roll that my youngest brother gets a strong hit on his rod stripping off about 150 yards of line in no time. We thought maybe it was another big spanish but then after about 10 minutes of strong fighting we knew it wasn't the spanish and thought maybe he had hooked into a juvenile tarpon. After about 20 minutes we finally see the cork that we were using to float the spanish rigs. After about 30 minutes he lands it. The fish weighed 15 lbs. and we are assuming it's a little tunny?!?! Can anyone give me a positive id. Can't attach pics right now, have dial-up connection here at the beach house.
Not sure if we are going back out this evening or not. That's a heck of a hike across the beach to the jetties and it doesn't help that it's been as hot as it has!
