Spanish Mack in surf

Heading to Texas coast in a few weeks. Usually catch a few mack. in surf along with trout. What is the best bait and/ or lures to use?

I don't know about Texas, but when I've caught them along the OBX I used a Stingsilver, 10# test, and a fast, fast, fast retrieve. Pink and white and green and white worked best.

Throw out as far as you can, and wind in as fast as you can. :fishing:

Gotcha' Plugs work good for Spanish too.

I make my own Gotchas in pink/white or green/weight.

I used to fish with them with any type gold spoon with green trailer of some kind.

They can be finicky at times. JMHO C2

I made a home made gotcha out of a ink pen casing , weight,leader material and some hooks once....worked out for a little while until a big bluefish tore it up.


McDonalds straws work good for a quicky gotcha lure and you can use cheap extension cord to make a skirted jig. Neither will last very long but theyre cheap or free.

go to academy and buy yourself a
2oz diamond jig, it looks like about a 3" long diamond shaped peice of shiny stainless steel, with a trebel hook on the end of it, you can cast this thing a hell uv a long way and you can retreive it verrrrry fast, smacks love em, and so do kings when the water gets warmer

Hello!
Spoons- spoons- spoons. Fast retrieve. wire leaders. Big jacks should start showing up in the surf before long as well. We haven't had much of a winter and the surf temps have been slowly climbing. Won't be long!!!
