Can anybody give me some info about cod and those worms in the meat? I caught bunches of them a few years ago and there were a few worms around, most fish were clean. I caught about a 4 pounders earlier this month and it must have had 10 worms in it. Anything I can do, anyway to tell if the fish has got them, I need some advice.

Thanks,

Stan

Blaaa Worms are protien... So long as its cooked.. Sushi on the other hand.. i love.. but i look..
I know some worms can live through our digestive system.. but i doubt they can stand 350 degree oil.. Fry your fish.. its worm free :D..

Id be more worried about the parasitic eggs then the worm itself..
If you find a worm, and pull it out.. and want to eat the fish .. soak it in pure lemon juice or vinager... for a few hours.. there natural antiseptics.. then rinse off and flavor how you want.. I prefer Lemon juice..

If you fillet your cod hold it up to a bright light, you can see the worms through the transparency of the meat. They appear as dark spots or blood spots, remove with a sharp knife and discard, Your cod is now ready for cooking. Don't worry even apples contain worms.

I think you're right cut them out and eat them. This cod I had earlier in April had 8-10 worms in a 3 pound punk fish. That was way too much for me to handle, I never noticed them while he was fresh, I didn't fillet him. I vacuumed packed it fresh, I was drinking a little.... Got him home and was ready to chow, yikes, worms out the ass, still alive and wiggling like the day I caught it. No thanks. I introduced them fillets to the garbage disposal in short order.

I fished ontario a couple years back and most of the walleye I caught had worms in them....This was late august and before anyone says it...I was about 5-6 hours north of toronto so I wasn't fishing in a dirty lake. Its just a fact of life...there are parasites out there and fish are just ONE of the hosts. I've never found a worm in a fish I've caught here but I'm sure they exist.....cut them out if you find them, cook your meat thoroughly and you'll be fine.
