I know how you feel. I have 3 gift cards to BPS totaling 165 dollars. BPS doesn't carry too many saltwater reels and rods but I can get all the terminal tackle I need.

Just curious, what kinda reel are you looking to buy?

well the $208 came from returning a quantum cabo pts 50 that is either a bad reel or came from the manufacturer bad/flawed, either way it was my first and last experience with quantum. What I'm lookin at is a fin-nor ahab (the smaller size that bps doesnt carry) or what the heck if I cant get rid of the gift card a shimano stella, althought after testing both at bps the fin-nor felt really solid and much better, but I dont know I'm a dedicated penn man, penn reals are all I know! the problem with fin-nor and bps is that bps carries two of their reels one is 30 oz and the other is 31oz. thats just tooo heavy for me.

30 oz is a good size for a hammer
What size reel you looking at? I'd go with daiwa spinner or conv.

How come BPS won't give you cash?
That is the reason my wife and I use a credit card for big $ purchases., don't want no store credit on something you might have to return or have problems with it.

Go with the Stella. Plus, it'll only 'feel' like your paying $50 for it anyway.
I bought my first Shimano spinner (Spheros) this year and it felt and worked great on these schoolies this fall.

Being a "dedicated" Penn man (I admit to being one too) I'd look at the Slammer series. Fished beside a guy a week ago that had the 560 model, sweet reel!! no antireverse gear but that can be adjusted to I'm sure. I do believe that will be my next reel purchase. Not sure if the Hampton store carries them but I'm sure they can get it.

oh yes, Jay thats what I use right now the penn slammer 460 and its great, dont have a single complaint. If I could change anything I 'd make it lighter, but probably not possible, thought about getting the one smaller than the 460 the 360?? but I want to branch out and try a new brand, I'm thinkin shimano. they dont seem as tough as penn's and I do abuse/overuse my reels

Go with the Penn. The Slammer series is smooth and solid. No kick-back in the handle like the old SS. I have a 260 and love it. The insides are simple and rugged. Replacement parts can be had quickly and it is easy to strip down, clean, and rebuild.........and MADE IN THE USA.

go with okuma and save $150. i recently bought an okuma classic and was skeptical because of the price, but ive had no problems and it works great!
