Check out Walmart. They're considered cheap in the biking world but hey, not everyone wants to spend $1k+ on a bike. I'm satisfied with my Walmart bike :) Only cost me under $200 too.

i'd go ahead and go to a bike shop, the bikes are a lot better quality and you should be able to find one for $200-400

Wally-world is a good place to start, especially if you are not sure if you will enjoy the sport. I've ridden Wally bikes and I've ridden really good bikes. But I'm only an occasional rider type, so my Wally bike works fine for me. It does rattle my brain on rough terrain, though.

There are tons of them out there that people bought to get exercise yada yada yada, and are sitting in garages un-used. Also check the Trading Post and yards sales once it warms a bit.

If you're looking to buy new then check out Sports Authority. They have the Wally World prices but a lot bigger selection.

Go to a bike shop. I think there's Performance Bikes or Bike Nashbar around Fairfax Circle. There's the bike shop in Old Town Alexandria.

IMHO, don't buy cheap components. (Components are your moving parts of the bike, gears, derailurs, brakes, etc) They won't last.

Think of it as buying a reel. Do you want a reel that you'll use 1 or 2 times a year to catch spot and croaker? Buy the lower end Shimano reel for $40. Are you going to be fishing in Montauk with the crazies up there and floating out to the fish, then get the $400 model.

Oh yeah, there's a reason Shimano makes both reels and gears. Lots of moving parts that perform well.

Good luck with the bike shopping - biking is a great sport.

And to keep this fishing related, check out Lake Accotink in Springfield. There's a nice trail around the lake that you can bike around and fish. I've picked up some nice bass out of that lake when I was a youngen.

thanks... thanks also for the verse in ur signature...

He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. John 21:6

I'll be in chesapeake beach probaly many times this year for some kayak fishing...

do you suggest any good entry level bikes?
