Dear Cabela's Customer:
Occasionally, an issue of such importance arises we feel it necessary to contact our loyal customers. With our fishing rights at stake, this is such an issue.
On August 23, 2010, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was petitioned by the Center for Biological Diversity and others to ban lead from ammunition and fishing tackle, including sinkers, jigs, weighted fly lines and components containing lead, such as brass and ballast in lures, spinners, stick baits and other fishing products.
On August 27, the EPA denied the petition regarding ammunition, but let stand the petition to ban lead in fishing tackle and has opened a short period for taking public comment.
Such a ban would cause prices of fishing products to skyrocket. Alternative metals can cost from six to 15 times more than lead, and most do not perform as well. For many, fishing would no longer be the affordable sport it is now.
Please join Cabela's and Keep America Fishing in opposing this ban by submitting your comments to the EPA no later than September 15, 2010. You can easily do so by clicking here.
It is a fast and easy way to assure your opinion is heard.
Cabela's is working in conjunction with the American Sportfishing Association and Keep America Fishing to protect our tradition and heritage of fishing.
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,

I'm new to these boards, but would love some advice if anyone would be kind enough to share. I used to to be obsessed with fishing as a kid, but my father didn't really do any of it, so it was pretty much up to me to figure things out for myself on family beach trips. Learned a lot by watching others, trying things for myself, and a little friendly advice from old timers on the piers.

Well, it had been a few years since I had done any fishing at all, but I spent the 4th of July weekend fishing with a buddy in the Core Sound area and caught a bunch of nice flounder and blues. Then I just spent 2 weeks at Wrightsville with my family and caught some decent drum (6 >22"), a bunch of blues and my first ever cobia fishing off a dock on Banks Channel.

Well, needless to say...I'm completely hooked again and itching to do some more.

I'm heading up to Carova with some friends Sept 18-25. I was wondering if I should bring a rod down there and try to do some surf fishing. I've heard the drum are pretty good later in the season, but was wondering what I could expect this time of year. I haven't done a whole lot of surf fishing, so any advice would be helpful.

Thanks for any help!

tuesday we got 2 puppy reds right off the get go, then pin fish and blues the rest of the afternoon.

this morning started slow. right away we saw, from a distance, what we thought were a couple of tailing reds, couldnt get them to take any bait. had a 4ft biter chase my bait back to the boat though. not much action until the tide came in a bit. ended up with 2 short flounder (one was 11.5"), 3 reds (all 13"-16"), and 2 huge croaker.

all in all, 2 great days on the water!

The storm will be well to the north by then and I’m wondering what fish we should target in the aftermath? We usually have success with the blues from the surf but would like to maximize our efforts. Do fish actually come in closer to shore after the storm? Does the amount of fresh water from the storm effect the bite? Any ideas would go a long way. Where do the flounder go during these storms?
