storing cable/wire leaders

Maybe some of you fellow big game fishermen have the same problem as i do...of course we use the 3-6ft wire leaders that we will sit for hours making on a rainy day (my girlie calls it arts and crafts) perfecting the hook placement and crimping technique with hopes of that monster destroying his mouth with it and running...my problem is after a long day of fishing the pack up process begins, dont know about all of you but i bring alot of sh@* !!! I usually roll up my leaders in a circle and store them seperate in ziploc bags, its great and conveniant and i can mark which leaders they are...then upon unpacking on the next time for battle i go to tie on my leaders and they are coiled from sitting in the bags and you cannot get them to take a "straight" appearance the way that i feel they need to be...does anyone else have a better way to store the leaders...let me know...

zIP-locs and wire ties...tha ones that come with yer trash bags....

That's how I keep my Flounder and spade fishin leaders straight.
I roll up tha leaders and cinch em with the wire ties.

BTW...is the wire leaders fer shark and blue's fishin or theys used fer kingin'?

I've seen the kingin' dudes use an old see thru plastioc map tube or PVC with some foam glued to the end ,and keep them king rigs secured that way

i dont believe some of you are getting the question...rolling up the leader and then placing it in something it takes on the shape of a circle...storing in ziplocs is perfect except they become a spiral when i remove them and go to use them again...the pvc pipe or the gun case make sense...something to lay them FLAT in...

I think the PVC pipe would be the cheapest and easiest route to go. You could make it long enough and use small bungy cords, (or cheaper yet, large rubber bands) to stretch the leader material the length of the PVC. Just attach the hook to one end and the other end of the leader to the rubber band on the opposite end of the PVC.

Let us know if you experiment, how it turns out.

I have a few ideas that you may/may not find practical.

1. For small rigs I use a pringles can. I stick toothpicks through it and attach the swivel/crimp loop there and wind around and around. But that would make coils like you dont want

2. I've seen/found pieces of cardboard like 12"x18" that people use. You cut slits in either end and wind there. This makes REALLY bad kinks in wire, mono, flouro, and everything else so just don't bother.

3. A PVC pipe. Get one with a large circumfrence. Glue sponge/styrofoam thickly around the outside of one end. Drive hooks into the spongy stuff. If you have clips and no hooks attached yet, cut slits down the foam and put the line in there so that the crimp/clip/swivel will stop it. Then let the rigs hang in the PVC pipe. You can also mod a PVC rod holder this way so your rigs are right there with your rod.

- use a clear plastic tube if you wanna see the rigs inside so you dont have to guess which is which.

4. Soft thin foam. Like the stuff you find on those roll-up sleeping pads. Dont get the really bumpy stuff, just flat. You can put hooks in the sides and then drape the rig down the pad. Or cut slits lengthwise in the pad so you can lay the rig in the slits and it will stay tucked in til you grab it. With the pads you can roll them up and tie them closed with string. So you'll look pretty swanky when you unroll a library of rigs on a fancy padded mat at the beach.

Dont go out and buy those cylinders with grooves from some bait shop. They also give coils, no matter what they advertise, and it's a waste of time.

tell me if you want more details

Advisor taught me to use that blue insulation that you put on a house before putting up siding - comes in nice size sheets that you can cut to any size you wish - and then you can just "cut" a slit into it at each end with your snell (or in your case your wire leader).
