Long J Hooks

Poster: cygnus-x1 (see this users gallery) I spent the day sorting my hooks and ran across these fellas. I have seen them on mackerel rigs and some flounder rigs but what I would like to know is if these hooks have a good use and do people use them for anything? I assume the long shank may be good for bluefish to keep them from biting the leader but I would like to get some expert (and not so expert) opinions

Did you take these pics? They look real professional. All my digital pics seem like they were taken by a monkey using a polaroid.

Oh, the hooks, I haven't ever seen those before. Maybe they were made before my time

Yes I took them. I use a Canon EOS Digital Rebel and it is a blast. I used a plastic food cutting board to get the contrast. I am by no means a good photographer. You know how they say a great rod won't help a poor caster? Well in this case a great camera does =)

That's a nice camera you have. Something I would not want to bring out in the sand. Depending on what size those hooks are I have used them to catch croakers, spots and can be used on flounder rigs.. Those hooks are not meant to be used in catching bigger bruiser blues or anything of significant size they would bend the heck outta them long J hooks. From my experience I had some of them break off at the point of the bend.
